Bernadette Peters, Mary Tyler Moore and a gaggle of adorable (and adoptable!) dogs and cats will take over Shubert Alley once again for the 12th annual Broadway Barks!. The popular event, a star-studded adopt-a-thon, will take place on July 10, 2010 from 3:30PM to 6:30PM. Three days later, Peters will return to Broadway as Desirée Armfeldt in the revival of A Little Night Music.
Dozens of New York City no-kill animal shelters and adoption agencies will fill Shubert Alley in the Theater District for the event with information on their organizations and hundreds of animals ready to be adopted.
Starting at 5:30PM, Peters, Moore and their Broadway friends will take to the stage to introduce pets and shelter representatives to the crowd. Already confirmed for the event are Brooke Adams (Lend Me a Tenor), Kevin Chamberlin (The Addams Family), Katie Finneran (Promises, Promises), Montego Glover (Memphis), Tony Goldwyn (Promises, Promises), Ruthie Henshall (Chicago), Hunter Ryan Herdlicka (A Little Night Music), Beth Leavel (Mamma Mia!), Judy McLane (Mamma Mia!), Michael Mastro (West Side Story), Jan Maxwell (Lend Me a Tenor), Tony Shalhoub (Lend Me a Tenor), Richard Thomas (Race) and Ace Young (Hair).
Following the event this year, Peters will sign copies of her second children’s book Stella Is a Star! in the lobby of the Schoenfeld Theatre at approximately 7:15PM. The book follows Stella, a pup who would rather be a graceful ballerina than what she really is: a dog no one seems to like. The book includes a CD with the original song “Stella’s Song,” written and performed by Peters.
